The Pentax K10D has been a popular amateur Digital SLR since its 2006 debut when it presented serious competition to the Canon EOS 30D and Nikon D200. It features a 10.2 effective megapixel CCD, RAW and JPG image format, a 2.5 inch LCD monitor, along with a a PRIME (Pentax Real IMage Engine) image processor and a great weather resistant body at a very affordable price.Pentax, well known for unique innovations such as its shake-reduction system, has also included their dust removal system with Special Protectant (SP) coating and shake mechanism to keep the CCD surface dust-free.This digital camera, the 10.2 MP Pentax K10D (kit w/ 18-55mm lens), uses Pentax KAF2 lenses. It uses Secure Digital Card memory cards, and its CCD resolution is 3872 x 2592. The K10D has a 2.5" diagonal LCD screen on the back, and you can manually adjust the shutter & aperture. Its fastest shutter speed is 1/4000 second, up to a maximum exposure time of 30 seconds, and you can shoot 3 frames/second continuously. It has a built-in internal flash plus a self timer. Fantastic! I've had mine about 7 months now and have used it for family, outdoors and night sky pictures. Shake reduction works even with my old prime M series lenses. I have two autofocus D lenses (18-55 and 50-200) and use these most often, I like taking pictures with older manual focus lenses when I have the time. I'm still learning and appreciating more and more every time I use the camera. The battery life is much better than expected. For Pentax accessories, I have a second battery and the wired remo... –P. Semi-pro! With the proper lens this camera can do everything that the big boys like Nikon and Canon can do! It has so many features sometimes I have to get the manual out to remember how to use them! Its fast, sturdy, waterproof and takes great shots! I've printed out some photos so far up to 8x10 size and they are as crisp as you can get and that is using the stock 18-55mm lens that came with the camera.
